The Ancestors of Ida Rebecca BRADFORD
Quoted from a letter written by a BRADFORD descendant in 1938:
"It is the understanding of the various members of my family that my [ancestor] William BRADFORD. . . was always a landowner at or near Loughborough, Leics, England (& I believe his property belonged to his father before him.) Wm. BRADFORD's wife's maiden name was Rebecca TINKLEY. Opinions vary about the number of children they had - but I am positive of the following: Thomas, Fanny, Sarah, Elizabeth. (There is some mention of a Bess, which probably was a nickname for Elizabeth.) Elizabeth was married to George HOOD, & she being the oldest daughter (I understand) . . . she & her husband were given the old place at Loughborough, when . . . Thomas would not return to England to reside. And, after the death of Elizabeth BRADFORD HOOD, which was 22 Nov 1903, the place probably reverted to the Crown.
There is some belief that Wm. BRADFORD's father's name was also William . . . (Thomas first came to the United States in) 1828 & 1848, but . . . believe 1848 to be correct. His mother & father (Wm. & Rebecca B.) made several trips (to the USA) from England & returned to England from their last trip to America about 1879 - 1880 & resided with George & Elizabeth HOOD at Loughborough until their death year of 1887 . . . Thomas came to the U.S. on a tramp boat (steamer). They first settled at Chicago, IL, altho' some believe Buffalo NY.
William & Rebecca BRADFORD were very religious & belonged to the Church of England, . . Parish or any record of their birth or marriage . . . Coat of Arms or family seal [not found].
(William) talking about Lincolnshire, Morelane (sic), York & West Moreland & that he always addressed his letters home to 'William BRADFORD, Loughborough, Leicestershire, Old England'.
Plus a bit more -
William BRADFORD - born 1794; died 02 Jun 1887
Rebecca TINKLEY - born 1795; died 31 Oct 1887 (all 4 events in Loughborough, Leics, England)
Thomas BRADFORD - born - ?, Loughborough ? died 15 Apr 1907 Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington, USA. On the 1907 Death Certificate, the age is 81 years (months left blank) & the birthplace for Thomas, & both parents is 'England'.
Sarah SNYDER - born ?, Germany or New York State, USA died 27 Mar 1907 Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington, USA. On the 1907 Death Certificate, the age is 71 years 7 months, birthplace is New York, birthplaces of both parents - Germany.
On both Death Certificates, Informant's Own Signature is simply ' - '
Thomas BRADFORD's sister, Elizabeth, married 'Lord' George HOOD. Their address was 42 Moor Lane, Leicestershire, Loughboro (sic) England. . . . letter from George HOOD dated Jun 17, 1903 from Hope House, South Park, Lincoln in which he states - 'My dear wife Elizabeth BRADFORD HOOD died on Nov 22, 1902.' . . . (someone) corresponded with Mrs. BROOKS who owned 42 Moor Lane, Loughborough about 20 years . . . she died two years ago & now her sister writes . . Mrs. BROOKS did everything she could to trace our BRADFORD family." The date of this note is not known! (Some of this info conflicts with that of another researcher.)
