DOWN A SHAFT.
Ten-Year-Old Boy Is Killed
at St. Mary's Hospital. . .
He is the 10-year-old
son of G. H. CRAIG, of 1812 West First
street, and was taken to the hospital two
weeks ago, suffering from an attack of
appendicitis. . . .
The boy was riding on an elevator . . .
He tried to get off on the fourth floor
without giving the elevator boy time to
stop, the little fellow thinking that he
would step over on a broad sill and let
the car go by. He did it so quickly that . . .
was unable to even catch hold f him. . .
when the force was released he fell
headlong down the shaft.
He lived less than half an hour.
Coroner . . . found that no responsibility could be
placed on employes (sic) of the hospital.

DISTRESSING ACCIDENT OCCURS AT
ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL.
Leslie CRAIG, a Little Ten Year Old
While Playing in an Elevator
Jumps Off While it is Ascend-
ing and Drops in the Foot of the
Shaft - Was Convalescent Patient.
. . . Leslie CRAIG,
the 10-year-old son of George H. CRAIG,
a Northern Pacific engineer living at
1812 West First street, was killed by
falling down the elevator shaft from
the fourth story . . .
The unconscious boy was picked up
at the bottom of the shaft . . .
he died within a few minutes.
. . . his father planned to go to
the hospital and bring the boy home.
He laid off all day for the purpose and
after spending some time making
necessary preparations, went to the
hospital feeling thankful that the boy
had progressed so well and could be
taken home. He arrived a very short
time after the little fellow's death. . .
Coroner . . . made a thorough investigation
of the accident and is satisfied
that no one is to blame for it. . .
The boy was removed to C. O. NELSON's
undertaking rooms in the West
end, and the funeral arrangements will
be completed today.
