Text of Newspaper Obituary of Alexander Biggart Sayer SMITH
27 Nov 1935: "A.B. Sayer SMITH, Pioneer Resident of City, Died Tuesday" (26 Nov 1935) A pioneer Vancouver resident & one of the men who worked on plans for the famous "Cutty Shark" (sic), Alexander B. Sayer SMITH of 4692 Dunbar Street, died on Tuesday. He was aged 87.
Born in Scotland, Mr. SMITH was a draughtsman at the Clyde shipyards. It was there he worked as an apprentice on the plans of the "Cutty Sark", the clipper which won world renown (sic).
Mr. SMITH came to Vancouver in 1888 & worked on construction of Hotel Vancouver. He was later employed in the Vancouver City Hall & retired from active business in his 75th. year.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, R.B., F.B. & A.M. SMITH; three daughters, Mrs. J. Stewart GALL, Mrs. J. McGREGOR & Mrs. F. WATTERS (sic), 14 grandchildren & three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of Mount Pleasant Undertaking Co. The service will be conducted by Rev. E.D. BRADEN & the remains will be cremated.
